You'll need another car for this. Do you have a friend? No? Guess you'd better call the guy from your badminton club. Hopefully, he has jumper cables.

Locate the batteries on both cars. Make sure the car with the dead battery has all the electronics turned off. Shut off the radio, turn off the A/C, unplug your curlers, etc.

The jumper cables will be marked or color-coded. First, attach the positive clip on the cables to the positive terminal on the dead battery. Second, attach the other positive clip to the positive terminal on the live battery. Third, attach the negative clip to the negative terminal on the live battery.

Lastly, attach the other negative clip to a piece of non-painted metal under the hood of the dead car. This will give you a ground. Don't screw this up, or you'll make a lot of scary sparks, and no one wants to hold you until you stop shaking.
SAFETY NOTE: Don't stand between the two cars if they're facing each other. Think about those rosemary mashed potatoes you love so much. Then think about your legs. Get it?

After the batteries have been connected a few minutes, try starting your car. If it works, you're all done. If not, make sure you've got good connections and give it a few more minutes. If it still doesn't work, put the old battery in the basket of your daughter's bicycle and pedal to the auto parts store.
