Pop the hood. If you don't know how to do that, see Lesson 1A.

Locate the dipstick. It might say "oil" on the handle. You know, like the decanter of olive oil in your kitchen.

Remove the dipstick. If the fluid is red, you have found the dipstick for the transmission fluid. Don't worry, it's a mistake anyone could make, unlike your choice in shirts. If the fluid is a brownish-black color, you've found the oil.

Wipe the dipstick clean. Your hands may get dirty. You could get a rag... or be a man and use your sock.

Put the dipstick back in. Pause for a moment. Feels pretty good to do stuff on your own, huh? Maybe you should make a quick note of this in your diary... or, uh, journal.

Pull the dipstick back out. There will be hash marks or a line marked "fill" or "add." If the oil level is below the line, add more oil. The cap for the oil fill hole is on top of most engines. Don't worry, it will be clearly marked. Just unscrew the cap (lefty loosey, righty tighty) and pour in the oil. As you add oil, test the level with the dipstick now and again. Learn from your extensive experience with hotel buffets, and don't overfill.

Congratulations, you have the right amount of oil in your car. Remember to rub a little grease on your face. Chicks dig dirty dudes.

Now might be a good time to protect your engine from that sludge floating around in your old oil. If you haven't done so since your last oil change, pour a bottle of STP® Oil Treatment into your oil fill hole-the one we just had to teach you how to locate.
