Do you know what your car's belts look like? Hint: They probably won't match your shoes. They will be either on the front or the side of the engine, depending on the car. The engine is under your hood, by the way, which hopefully you still remember how to open.
SAFETY NOTE: Always make sure your engine is OFF, and the keys are on the front seat, before you check your belts. You don't want to injure your hands. You might want to use them someday.

Check the tension by pulling on the belt firmly, but not hard. The belt should have between one-quarter and one inch of give. Any more, and it could slip off like your toupee at swim aerobics class.
