ARIC ALMIROLA DRIVER, NO. 43 FORD
Aric Almirola, Driver No. 43 Ford
Aric Almirola’s entrance into the motorsports world began in 1992 at the early age of eight. And, since that time, Almirola has climbed the ranks of racing to become a winner in the premier NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driving the most famous car in the sport: the STP No. 43 Ford owned by “The King” Richard Petty.
Almirola, a Florida-native of Cuban descent, joined Richard Petty Motorsports in 2012 after six previous years of NASCAR competition with Joe Gibbs Racing, Dale Earnhardt, Inc., Ballew Motorsports and JR Motorsports. In his first year with RPM, Almirola won his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, and the team hit their stride in 2013 with six top-10 finishes, including four in a row.
The 2014 season was a breakthrough one for then 30-year-old Almirola. He won his first Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway on the same weekend that Petty won his 200th 30 years prior. As a result of that win, Almirola participated in his first Chase for The Sprint Cup. He posted two top-five and seven top-10 finishes en route to a 16th-place finish in the point standings. The success of the 2014 season earned Almirola a spot in the Top-25 Latino Athletes edition of ESPN Deportes The Magazine.
With a goal of gaining consistency, Almirola and the No. 43 team did just that in 2015. Posting three top-five, six top-10 and 18 top-15 finishes, the team narrowly missed The Chase and scored the 17th spot in the Championship Point Standings, the top non-Chase spot.
Almirola and the No. 43 Ford team are now back again for their fifth season together. With a winning confidence, expect Almirola to once again be running up front and competing for a championship in 2016.
