You know, That Guy who thinks that the best way to keep a car from overheating is to roll down the window. That Guy who hires the neighborhood kid to wash his car 'cause he’s allergic to “going outside and doing things.” There are lots of ways to be That Guy, but only one way not

to be: by regaining your self-sufficiency and learning the basics about car care. Using STP® is a good first step. And while we can’t do the rest for you, we'll give you a few pointers. Check out the tutorials. Take a look at the videos. And get under your hood. Good luck, and Don't Be That Guy.

    OVERLY STICKY SITUATIONS

    Parents love ‘em.

    Bumper stickers, chief.

Before YouTube came along, bumper stickers were the best way some people could think of to broadcast their opinions. Is there any better way to tell the world your kid is an honor student than by slapping a super sticky sticker on the back of your Point A–to–Point B mobile? Probably. But hey, more power to you if you need to make sure the driver behind you knows you’d rather be fly fishing, or that you’d like them to honk if they hate car horns. Who cares if they start crying because they actually believe your kid beat up their honor student?

All kidding aside, if you’re seriously sick of broadcasting your support for the losing presidential candidate from 1996, you may want to know how to get that [expletive deleted] off. Well, you came to the right blog, amigo. Hope you like dots ’cause here come some good ones:

    • The most commonly effective method is to spray the sticker with a lubricant (such as WD40) and then just peel it off. But sometimes that just doesn’t do the trick. If it doesn’t, try the idea next to the next dot.

    • Wet a rag in boiling water and soak the whole bumper sticker area for 30 seconds or more. Then go ahead and peel it off. If it’s acting like Lindsay Lohan and still not going away, it’s time to break out the blow dryer, amigo.

    • Crank your (or your lady’s) blow dryer up to full blast to soften the adhesive. Start peeling off a corner of the sticker while continuing to apply heat, or gently scrape off the sticker with a rubber spatula or a putty knife with its metal blade wrapped in duct tape. Don’t go using a razor blade, now. It can leave scratches on the paint and bumpers. Keep it classy.

    • If you’ve tried all these methods and there’s still some of that bump stick on there, wipe the remains away with a soft, lint-free rag dampened with rubbing alcohol. That ought to do it.

    • Finally, buff the bumper or panel with a polishing compound and a fresh coat of wax to complete the job. Then do the dance of joy. The world will no longer know that you “heart” pirates.

Well, that’s that. Always a pleasure. Until next time, motorheads.

P.S. Congratulations to all the honor students out there. Keep up the good work.
