Road Trip!Winter is getting old, and I’m already fantasizing about what I’m gonna do once it gets a little warmer. Two words, chief: road trip.
Without much preamble, here are the five reasons road trips rule:
LEAVING TOWN: It doesn’t matter where you’re leaving if you’ve decided to go on a road trip — it’s time to leave town. And the road trip hasn’t officially begun until you cross the bridge, or if you don’t have a bridge, until you pass that sign that says, “You are now leaving [INSERT your town’s name here].’ That’s when the shenanigans start.
THE SHENANIGANS: What the heck are the shenanigans? Well, that depends on the road trippers. If you’re on the immature side — and the road does tend to bring out your immature side — the shenanigans may range from mooning the car next to you, to rolling up the windows and farting, to telling the dirty jokes you can’t tell in polite company. If you’re too mature for the shenanigans or you’re road tripping alone, let’s focus on the music.
THE MUSIC: “Life Is A Highway”,” so, “Hit The Road, Jack.” You don’t have to drive a “Lowrider” or a “Mercedes-Benz,” but you may want to bring some of the songs mentioned in this paragraph or it’s going to be a “Highway To Hell.” It doesn’t really matter what the songs are as long as they’re your favorites. There’s something about the open road that can make even a Backstreet Boys song sound good — or, at least, better. But you may want to turn down the volume when passing through those weird towns.
WEIRD TOWNS: Welcome to Weird Town, USA. Population: 19. Known for having your state’s fourth-oldest tree. The town is one road long, and the entire population leers at you from their windows as you drive by, making sure you don’t mess with their giant statue of Babe the Blue Ox that’s made entirely from rubber bands. And, as amazing as all this sounds, you’re happy you drove by it because you’ll always remember how weird it was. It’s one of the fun X factors of a road trip.
THE X FACTORS: The X factors could mean anything. Maybe the X factors are the people who are road tripping with you. Maybe they’re the people you’ll meet on your adventure. Maybe the X factors are the adventures you have — the dangers you come across. The X factors stand for the unknowns — and they’re the best, most memorable parts of the road trip. And if you’re confused between the X factors and the shenanigans, don’t worry — I’m pulling these names out of thin air.
Well, I think I was vaguely specific enough that your top five reasons road trips rule can fit neatly into mine. It all boils down to cramming more fun and adventure into our lives, amigo. We need as much of that stuff as we can get.
